Mad Men Season 4 Episode 2 had a tougher task than the premiere. Although Mad Men Season 4 Episode 2 wasn't the first episode back, it had to keep Mad Men's momentum going. Episode 2 is usually an overlooked one for a
season, after the glitz and anticipation of a premiere. In the second week, a show usually settles down from its big return, and gets to work setting up threads for the year ahead. Mad Men Season 4 Episode 2 did that by welcoming some familiar faces back, to bring an end to 1964.
Warning: Spoilers follow
After saying hello to 1964 last week, this week promptly said goodbye to it with a holiday celebration. Of course, since this is the first full holiday season without his family, Don had little to celebrate. So he spent much of his time getting drunk to a Roger Sterling/Archibald Whitman extent, while avoiding a psychological survey.
But Mad Men Season 4 Episode 2 brought a familiar, creepy youngster back to the rest of the Draper family. Little Glen Bishop, who famously hit on Betty in Seasons 1 and 2, set his sights on troubled Sally this time around. Naturally, this manifested itself in disturbing ways - although Sally was more flattered than Betty ever was.
At the office, Mad Men Season 4 Episode 2 welcomed back an old co-worker. But, instead of Ken or Paul or Sal coming back, Freddy Rumsen returned for the first time since going on "Six Month Leave" In Season 2. Peggy was particularly happy to see him, until she started working with him after he brought in a new client.
But while work is still an uphill battle for Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, Mad Men Season 4 Episode 2 showed they can still party like the old Sterling Cooper. Yet they had no choice, since Lucky Strikes' Lee Garner Jr - who was last seen getting Sal fired - got himself invited to their Christmas party.
Since Lucky Strikes makes up 69 percent of SCDP's business, they had no choice but to serve him. Given Garner Jr's established unpleasantness, it wasn't an easy task, especially for Roger. Yet Mad Men Season 4 Episode 2
probably won't be the only time SCDP has to suck up to Garner Jr and Lucky Strikes this year. But, if he threatens to take the company down later, Don does have juicy blackmail material on him.
With 1964 already over, it is now on to 1965 and the halfway point of the '60s. But Christmas comes but once a year, as the episode title said. Mad Men Season 4 Episode 2 undoubtedly showed that, for people like Don, and a company like SCDP, that is quite a relief - which makes the difficult year ahead look a little easier by comparison.
Mad Men Season 4 is the Best We Have Seen Yet!
When does Mad Men Season 4 Start? It makes its debut on Sunday night July 25th on AMC. Mad Men Season 4 may just be the best season yet. It starts off right where we left off with the Drapers in turmoil along with Don's world crumbling around him. How will the Mad Men Don Draper fair in this season? Will he will come out on top?
Mad Men's Don Draper is the all around man with his handsome looks and charismatic personality. He lives a double life, not only with his fake name and fake past, but he has many affairs since the show has started. Each time a new woman is introduced on Mad Men, you can be assured that Donald Draper will bed them down, or at least that has been the case in the past.
The life and times of Mad Men has brought so much to our attention on the way of life back then. Everyone puffs on cigarettes from the pregnant women to men with breathing difficulties. The warnings we heed today were not warnings they even thought about back in the days that Mad Men takes place.
In one Mad Men episode Sally Draper comes out of her room playing spaceman with a cellophane dry cleaners bag over her head. The audience is startled by this vision and then we are reassured when her mother, Betsy Draper, calls her over to her in a stern voice. We thought for sure the young child would be ordered to take the bag off her head because of the dangers of possible suffocation. Instead her mother says that the dress that was in the dry cleaners bag better not be wrinkled and thrown on her bed. The little girl runs off to play with the bag still on her head and her mother resumes a conversation with her pregnant best friend as the two of them smoke cigarettes over wine.
Mad Men has given us a look into the way of life so many families practiced in the 60's. The wife stayed home while the husband worked. They had a housekeeper and someone to help with the children because it was too much work for a lady to do it all herself.
In one Mad Men episode the six or seven year old daughter is mixing cocktails for the parents and their guests. It was a proud moment for the girls parents when the guests compliment on the Manhattans that the small child had just mixed for the crowd.
